ESOL contributes to the Government's Skills for Life initiative by providing assessment for those candidates seeking to:

§         Enhance their knowledge of English
§         Develop their interpersonal communication skills in a British community
§         Improve their understanding of life in the UK
§         Progress towards and achieve the language criteria for naturalisation/UK citizenship
§         Progress towards and achieve, personal and economic independence
§         Take part in day to day social and cultural activities using the English language

ESOL Skills for Life and ESOL Skills for Life Speaking and Listening Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3

 


 

 

Based on the UK Adult ESOL Core Curriculum, this qualification is aimed at learners seeking to:  

  • Expand their knowledge of day to day situational and general English
  • Enhance their interpersonal communication skills in a British community
  • Improve their understanding of life in the UK
  • Improve their grasp and dexterity in a new, or familiar but poorly learnt language
  • Meet English language criteria for naturalisation / UK citizenship
  • Achieve personal and economic independence
  • Take full part in day to day social and cultural activities
 These learners generally include:
  • New refugees and asylum seekers
  • Long term immigrant settlers who need to acquire adequate language skills
  • Long and short term visitors from the European Community
  • Full and part time learners who wish to study English as a means of accessing training or qualifications

Entry Level Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life has three compulsory units:

  • Speaking and listening
  • Reading
  • Writing

Entry Level Certificate in ESOL Skills for Speaking and Listening has one compulsory unit:

  • Speaking and Listening

Assesment method: The assessment is externally set, internally marked and externally moderated.
